Hunter Abell focuses his legal practice on residential real estate, civil litigation, and Indian law. A lifelong Washington resident, Hunter grew up on a ranch in rural Ferry County, located on the Colville Indian Reservation.

He is an alumnus of The College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia, earned his Juris Doctor from Gonzaga University School of Law, and completed his Master of Laws (LL.M.) at Georgetown University Law Center. He previously contributed to the legal education community through his role on the Gonzaga Law Board of Advisors.

Before joining Williams Kastner, Hunter served as an officer in the U.S. Navy Judge Advocate General’s Corps (JAG), where he gained significant trial and litigation experience. During his military service, he was appointed Liaison Officer to the Central Criminal Court of Iraq in Baghdad, where he supported the prosecution of insurgents accused of attacks on Iraqi and Coalition personnel. He continues to serve as a Commander in the U.S. Navy Reserve and has been awarded the Defense Meritorious Service Medal and the Joint Service Commendation Medal for his service.

Hunter is well-versed in advocacy before federal, state, and tribal courts, as well as administrative agencies at both the state and federal levels. His background includes a strong emphasis on residential real estate disputes. He was recently honored in The Best Lawyers in America® for Commercial Litigation for 2024–2025.

In addition to his legal work, Hunter has devoted much of his career to public service. He is a former President of the Washington State Bar Association and previously served as a judge for the Ferry County District Court. Today, he serves the citizens of northeast and central Washington as a member of the Washington State House of Representatives.

Outside the courtroom and legislature, Hunter enjoys spending time with his daughters, Libby and Wynsome. His personal interests include hiking, waterskiing, and reading military history.
